Weekly Torah Study – Restorative Justice
May 20, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
“When a man or woman, if they commit any wrong against another person, and so break faith with the Holy One, … they shall confess the wrong, paying them compensation and adding a fifth.” (Numbers 5:5-7)
This teaching gets at the heart of Jewish ethics – that how one treats others is a matter of Divine concern. And repairing the harm means admitting wrongdoing, compensating those harmed, and paying a penalty on top.
Restorative justice is an idea about repairing the harm of collective wrongdoing. How might we, as Jews and as Americans, apply these principles to historic wrongs that are etched into the fabric of our world? Let’s read some texts and talk about it. Join Nafshenu’s weekly Torah study on Zoom at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20.
